phs Besafe is rooting for the future

What does a train maintenance worker in Aberdeen have in common with a farmer in the Amazon? The answer is phs Besafe! One is staying safe on site in the depot, thanks to phs Besafe high visibility workwear; the other is part of an agricultural co-operative benefiting from the reforestation in his local area, also thanks, in part, to phs Besafe.

As part of our commitment to CO2 offsetting and our on-going relationship with our supplier, Shield 360, we’re delighted to say that in 2018, we’ve once again helped to plant 250 trees in the Amazon. It may seem like a long way away but the rainforest in this region is estimated to produce 20% of the whole world’s oxygen!

As a sustainable business, phs Besafe realises that it’s not just about the obvious benefits of effective PPE clothing. It’s also about being aware of the impact that the actions of any supplier can have on other people and the environment. That’s why we’re delighted that our involvement with onetreeplanted.org via Shield 360 allows us to contribute to important work in the Amazon that will affect us all in the long term.

The trees planted on our behalf help to conserve valuable habitat in the rainforest, improve water quality and support healthier agriculture in these endangered environments, helping local farmers to establish a sustainable crop of cocoa trees and native productive timber that will support the community in the years to come.

By using our services, phs Besafe customers are also playing their part in this important work to ensure that we don’t lose tribes or species, or our planet’s capacity to regenerate itself. It really is a team effort.

At phs Besafe, our laundries are already using environmentally friendly washing and drying systems, employing organic detergents at low temperatures. Our processes also now include new and improved heat exchangers. These save energy by utilising waste water to pre-heat incoming water while also filtering used water for cleaner discharge.

Since 2017, phs Besafe has now contributed to the planting of 750 trees in the rainforest region, which hosts over 10% of the world’s bird species and has been subjected to unsustainable farming practices in the past. With each tree annually absorbing an average of 2kg of CO2, phs Besafe is proud to say that together, we’re offsetting 1.5 tonnes of CO2 every year and doing our little bit to combat climate change.
