Protecting the fire service: join phs Besafe at the Emergency Services Show on Stand D84

phs Besafe are happy to announce that we’ll be attending this year’s Emergency Services Show! Taking place in the NEC in Birmingham on the 19th-20th September, the Emergency Services Show is the ‘leading annual showcase of the blue light sector’. As well as featuring live demonstrations from over 450 exhibitors, it also presents great learning and networking opportunities for those in the emergency services, including the fire service.

Bill Leggett, Diane Kirkham, and Simon Warr from the phs Besafe team will be attending the show, and they can’t wait to see the latest products and technology being exhibited. They’re also excited to give advice on the importance of properly maintaining the workwear of fire service employees. This is something that can be achieved through our industrial laundry service.

At phs Besafe, we know how important it is to ensure the health and safety of your staff. Not only does it ensure your compliance with vital laws and legislation, but a happy and healthy workforce is also a more productive one. This is something that’s even more important for employees in the fire service as they’re required to put themselves in dangerous situations on an almost daily basis. They constantly put their lives at risk by responding to fires in homes, buildings and public spaces, as well as rail and traffic incidents, and chemical spills and floods.

To keep fire service workers protected from flames and hazardous chemicals and substances, they need to be provided with the right protective workwear for their environment and the job at hand. Legally, garments must be flame resistant and comply with specific safety standards. These include several European standards, such as EN ISO 11612 (Flame Retardant) and EN ISO 11611 (Welding).

It’s also important that safety workwear for the fire service is lightweight and comfortable to wear, so that it doesn’t restrict freedom of movement. This is particularly vital, with the fire service often needing to move as quickly as possible, and squeeze into tight spaces. This can be ensured by such garments having elasticated waists and cuffs, movement panels, and removable knee pads.

However, it isn’t just important that the fire service is supplied with the correct workwear; it’s also vital that their workwear is properly maintained through an industrial laundry service, such as phs Besafe’s. This protects fire service employees (as well as any other industries where workers may come into contact with hazardous chemicals and substances) by preventing contamination. This is because your garments will be collected from your site and laundered by phs Besafe, instead of being taken home by your staff and laundered alongside their and their family’s regular clothing.

Another benefit of using an industrial laundry service for your flame resistant workwear is that it can prolong the life of your garments. We use gentle organic detergents and dry the workwear on a low temperature to protect the fabric and its flame resistant properties, as well as zips and logos. We also complete any repairs as part of this service.
