The technology behind the Glow Gear range from phs Besafe

Effective safety equipment can make all the difference to your workplace. Reflective clothing is one of the fundamental pieces of safety workwear you can provide to keep your staff safe. Comfortable, functional, and well-maintained high-visibility workwear is vital if they’re working in low-light environments, such as railways, ports, quarries, mines, and construction sites.

Reflective clothing needs to be high-vis, but it also needs to be protective. Because of the types of environments high-visibility garments are required to be worn in, safety workwear needs to protect individuals from harsh weather conditions too.

Learn more about the Glow Gear range from phs Besafe and the technology behind it that’s keeping workers safe.

Safety wear that meets the brief

At phs Besafe, our protective garment ranges include the Bright Gear range, the Glow Gear range, and the Flame Gear range. Each range is suitable for the following work types and working environments:

Bright Gear: a range of high-visibility garments for railways, ports, and industrial and construction sites where aggregates are used.

Glow Gear: a range of high-visibility garments that are suitable for railways, utilities, mines, quarries, and environments where aggregates are used.

Flame Gear: a range of flame-resistant workwear that is suitable for any environment where welding, cutting, and grinding are carried out.

Reflective garments are used in a variety of jobs, from window cleaning to baggage handling. Providing these garments keeps employees safe, helping your business or organisation to comply with UK legislation such as the Personal protective equipment (PPE) at work regulations. These garments are worn year-round, so they are produced using hard-wearing, high-quality materials, and are lightweight enough to not restrict freedom of movement

Bright Gear and Glow Gear, our reflective clothing ranges

Our Bright Gear and Glow Gear reflective clothing ranges offer protection in low-light environments. Each range is fully compliant with the Railway Group Standard (RIS-3279-TOM) and EN 20471 Standard. While they sound similar and have some of the same features, each range is unique.

Bright Gear

The items in our Bright Gear range are bright orange in colour. They feature a double-stitched reflective tape which collects light from a source, and reflects this light back to the original source so that the wearer can be seen. This dual technology helps provide the weather with a third layer of protection in low light.

This reflective tape uses photo-luminesce technology, which provides visibility by:

  1. Photons in the tape absorb energy from both natural and artificial forms of UV light.

  1. The photons generate the increased activity of electrons.

  1. The electrons release their energy in the form of light, which automatically adjusts depending on the level of light in the wearer’s environment.

This technology ensures our Bright Gear helps the wearer stay visible even in poor light conditions. Our reflective garments are also comfortable to wear, making them suitable for use in many industries.

Glow Gear

Like our Bright Gear, our Glow Gear is also bright orange, providing visibility during normal daytime conditions, as well as enhanced features to keep workers visible. Our Glow Gear range provides three layers of protection, depending on the environment’s light levels. These are:

  1. Daytime fluorescence

  1. Retro reflectivity

  1. Phosphorescent illumination

One of the main advantages of wearing high-visibility garments from the Glow Gear range is that their dual reflective tape has a superfast charge. As an example, just five minutes of sunlight is needed to offer the wearer eight hours of glow and protection!

Because the dual technology reflective tape is charged by sunlight, the garments are also comfortable and lightweight as they don’t require bulbs. Additionally, as the battery packs don’t need maintenance or repairs, the high-visibility technology will last as long as the garments are free of structural damage (such as cuts, rips, tears, fraying, and burns from corrosion).
